Day in Hotel Santa Fe
This is a beautiful hotel: pretty buildings, lush gardens, two wonderful swimming pools, and a terrace and restaurant overlooking the beach, with ocean breezes and views of the famous waves that surfers come to Puerto Escondido for. Our room was large and comfortable, and the air conditioning was welcome for mid-day siestas and cool sleeping at night. I loved that there were screens on the windows and a fresh jug of drinking water each day. The staff were unfailingly kind and helpful. I found two novels I liked in the book-exchange cabinets at the front desk. The food in the hotel restaurant was generally quite good (loved the fresh juices and cinnamon French toast). There's also a nice coffee shop below the hotel called Finca de Nieves and a first-rate seafood restaurant across the street called Marinara (great ceviche verde and seafood curry), where you can lounge in hammocks after your lunch. The hotel's location is perfect, steps from the Zicatela beach and the quiet end of its strip of restaurants and shops. It's also walking distance to the main parts of Puerto Escondido, for laundry places, banks, and more restaurants and shops. You only have to walk out of the hotel's entrance and wait a few minutes to catch a taxi, which can whisk you to Playa Bacocho to release baby turtles at dusk or to Playa Manzanilla for quiet coves good for swimming. Or you could spend your whole time in the hotel's pools and lounge chairs, taking beach walks in the morning and evening, and have a perfect vacation. It's a steal for the price.

Shortly before we arrived, we got news that my 6 year old nephew passed away. Given that it took us over 12 hours to get to the hotel, we were not able to turn around and head back home immediately. We were in limbo for a few days with our plans and the hotel let us pay day by day instead of paying for the whole reservation (a week) because we didn't know if we were staying or not. The booking said the reservation was non-refundable, but they were extremely helpful and accommodating during the entire situation. They helped us book a taxi ride to Oaxaca city for my brother and mother who needed to get home as soon as possible. They also helped organize someone to do our laundry and give massages for a very reasonable rate. The hotel is also absolutely gorgeous. There are two pools (an adult-only pool and one that allows children). They have a private parking garage and street parking as well if you rent a car. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. I felt extremely safe there. This is my 2nd time staying there, and it certainly won't be my last.

We absolutely loved our time at Santa Fe!! The hotel and photos exceeded our expectations and we had such an incredible time, we didn’t want to leave. We felt so welcome and at home from the moment we arrived. The staff were really friendly and patient with us as we practiced our Spanish. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the staff were noticeably working hard to attend to every single guest. The room was spacious, clean, cool, and the bed was very comfortable. The pools were delightful and so tranquil to swim in or lounge around. The hotel is at the quieter end of Zicatela so we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful time!

The location, close to the beach and restaurants, convenience stores etc was perfect. The colonial Mexican style was well done although a little dated (eg. plumbing). The staff were friendly and always accommodating. The pools were well maintained and a great escape from the heat mid-day. The dining room, although only vegetarian, served excellent food.

The hotel has a very beautiful landscaping, the rooms are big an clean. The bed felt clean as well and very comfy. The location was ideal to me since it sits away from all the movement going at zicatela yet you can walk a few steps there and enjoy the lively beach front if you want.
